Dressed To Thrill: Making Sense Of Wedding Fashions

by Mia Bolaris-Forget (Staff Writer)Choosing a wedding gown can be challenging enough without all the key words and tricky phrases that experts so often throw out at you. And, even if you do, do your “homework” and get a professional point of view on which style and silhouette is best suited for you, you may still find yourself stumped by the sundry array of styles and silhouettes, many of which look to same to you.
De-stress by first deciphering and understanding the specifics of each. And, realize that in the world of fashion, there are just as many similarities as there are differences among designers and styles.
Both Princess and A-line offer a very similar silhouette featuring side seams the fun up and down (vertically) from the shoulder to the hem of the dress. And, both shapes tend to flatter almost any figure.
Ball gowns or Cinderella-style dresses are probably the most “conservative” and traditional of the bund, with a fitted bodice and a full, full skirt, usually accompanies with a crinoline for added puff.
Trendy, form-fitting gowns are either in the “mermaid” or sheath, only the mermaid features a skirt that juts out just below the knee.
And, last but certainly not least the regal empire silhouette offers a high waistline that rests just below the bust giving way to a slender (usually A-line) skirt.
